In order of how much I wanted the following ... Katherine really just not that into Damon; and never really was. Again, obviously, there may be more to this, but the fact that they are putting this out there in the premiere lets me hope that they are doing so to get Damon onto the path of take her down, and take her down for good. To put the final nail in the coffin of the Damon/Katherine love story. (At least for a good while, LOL!) It seems likely that's where we're headed.
Also, the relationship between Katherine and Stefan is explored, with it being put out there that it's Stefan she wants; he's the one she loved. The opening scene of "Blood Brothers" where Stefan mixed up Elena and Katherine telling him "I love you," Katherine's lack of reaction to Damon's death, but clearly pained reaction to Stefan's got this ball rolling. Obviously, even with the little bit we've been given there is more to the story, but its just as obvious that we are going to get a good taste of at least this much. And we're most likely going to get signs that Stefan still has feelings for Katherine as well.
And then we have my top three ...
1.) Damon and Elena grow closer. Again, duh. Look at the source material and all of the promotion; it's GOT to happen. Not to mention, the actors and producers have essentially said it's going to happen.
2.) Damon and Alaric's budding BFF-ness continues. That was spoiled a month or so ago when Julie Plec said that the writers love writing for those two and there would be a lot more of that. So yay!
3.) Damon becomes the male figure in Jeremy's life. I honestly thought there was a very good chance that this was just a pipe dream, and that Jeremy (either as a vampire or real boy!) would continue to hate on Damon. But I really, really, really wanted to see Jeremy turn to Damon as a big brother of sorts. Part of why I wanted it is because it creates another tie between Elena and Damon, but more importantly because I love the idea that somewhere inside of him he misses being the big brother with the adoring younger brother. And with Jeremy, he could have another taste of that. And, frankly, Ian Somerhalder and Steven R. McQueen have played off of each very well in just their few scenes together (the "hot/weird" conversation playing video games, Damon's "oh, I'm so confused with all of my teenage feelings" taunting speech, and then going to Jeremy to give him a choice to forget -- both in "Founder's Day"). I want more.
And I just read this information from a reporter in a twitpic: Steven McQueen as he tells us how Damon will turn into a father figure for Jeremy... And, OH MY GOODNESS! I'm getting that TVD wish too.
The awesome can NOT be put into words. Just YES!!!
And with that, knowing I'm getting shades and variations on the five things I really wanted to see next season, I am going to attempt to go spoiler free. I know, very unlike me, but the reason I've gone so spoiler-heavy for all of my past shows is because I don't trust the producers, the writers, the direction of the story. I need to be prepared for what's coming. I trust the people behind this show; I have faith that whatever is coming will continue to be awesome. So, yeah, I'm going spoiler-free.
