I'm feeling weak ...
Should I or should I not break down and watch the new season of Doctor Who, oh dear flist who know of my major Moffat-issues? Matt Smith just seems so insanely adorable, and I've been intrigued by all the posts I've been reading. I may intensely dislike River Song, but, damnit, I LOVE Alex Kingston, and Karen Gilliam seems cool.

I'm so conflicted!

Watch it!! Eleven is so adorable and awesome, and Amy is just so goddamn awesome. :D

There have been some really really good episodes, too. The most recent, Vincent and the Doctor, was one of the best of new Who, imo.

Could I get a quick run-down of your major Moffat-issues?

Short version - he doesn't respect other writers, he's misogynistic to the extreme, he has plot holes the size of Mack trucks. Long version - this post. I am NOT a fan; I, however, ADORE Russell T Davies.

Honestly? No.

Here's why. I'd watch the second season of Matt Smith and here's why, I just can't get into his Doctor. I've seen 7 episodes and I feel like his Doctor is still very wooden. I love AMY to death she's makes the episodes and River is fun and so is Rory. I thought I'd hate River too but found she made the episode interesting.

That's just me though. :)

As someone who only watched some of seasons 1-3, I'm enjoying the new season. I mean, it may not be excellent Who, but it's entertaining enough that maybe you can forget the canon it's supposed to be part of and try to like it anyway?

As a new viewer and someone who doesn't understand plot lines and such or even comprehend what the hell is going on with the show YET, I really like the new doctor and Matt Smith is adorkable as Eleven. I may be biased though. :D I know nothing about Moffat other than what people have told me so I have no opinion of him. I do have one person on my f-list who absolutely hates him but I see no issues with him as of yet. I haven't seen all the episodes a bajillion times. However, you should give the new season a try and judge for yourself.

Ooh, who on your flist hates him? Do tell! I may like this person! :D

Watch it, if only for the awesomeness that is Rory.

I think everyone I've talked to who has watched it either absolutely loves it or hates it. From what I understand, people who loved Classic Who are far more likely to enjoy it than those who just loved RTD's Doctor Who.

I tried watching it and I was just so irritated during every episode. I wanted to stab Moffat a lot of the time. I told myself I'd watch five episodes. The fourth was the first half of a two-parter. I never watched the second half because I wasn't even remotely interested in watching it. I put it off for a month before I gave up entirely. I don't miss it at all. I miss what it was when RTD was running it.

I converted a friend recently and she hates this season too. For her, it's Moffat's plot holes. And Matt Smith's acting.

If you do decided to watch, I'd love to know what you think.

...though I might not watch it even if you said that Moffat seemed to have mended his ways. I don't know. It would be a hard call. I trust you but, well, you know how I feel about Moffat!

I can't say if you should watch because I haven't watched and have no desire to do so.

No really. Once I make up my mind regarding the dumping of a tv show. That's it. I'm done.

I can say that I've seen more complaints on my flist than I've seen positive posts for S5. Mostly people have said it's unremarkable. Not that it's bad just ... kind of dull. *shrugs*

As a person who also has major issues with Moffat, I would recommend you watch it, keeping a wary eye out for anything that might upset you. So far, plot-holes have been pretty non-existent. We seem to have the opposite this season. The major theme running through the episodes is so blatantly obvious, it's like Moffat is pointing a huge neon sign at said plot twists and going, "MAJOR PLOT DEVELOPMENT RIGHT HERE!"

The characters are all right, though I haven't warmed up to any of them yet. Amy is cool, most of the time, but I get this gnawing sensation that Moffat is trying to make her the antithesis of Rose, which colours my view of her. Eleven is tolerable. I still feel like he's too much like Ten. River Song is still annoying as hell. But I'm pretty certain she is NOT his wife.

The major flaw for me is Moffat's deliberate attempts to erase the RTD era from existence, even making the Doctor say in one episode how he wished he could erase the last five years of his life. Or Moffat's tendency to point out that this is a NEW series. The first episode the Doctor firmly declares he loves apples (as opposed to bananas like Nine and Ten). The TARDIS has a different interior and exterior. The companion has a hapless boyfriend that she absolutely LOVES and wants to marry (as opposed to Rose and Mickey the tin dog). The subtle differences are enough to make one roll one's eyes and say, "Enough, Moffat. We get it. You're not RTD."

"even making the Doctor say in one episode how he wished he could erase the last five years of his life" OMGosh, he actually said that? That really pisses me off.

I have a serious soft spot for Matt and I think Karen is an amazing companion. Despite your Moffat issues, I think you'll enjoy the series.

I wasn't particularly excited over this season beforehand, but I have really enjoyed it so far! I've never been a super-ardent Who fan, but I think it's awesome the way the show simultaneously seems like classic time-and-space shenanigans, but also seems really fresh and new, and Eleven's a delight and AMY POND IS FREAKING LEGENDARY. She's so cool.

Hmm... this may not help at all but I tried to watch it but as soon as I saw those rainbow Daleks, I gave up. I tried watching it again a few eps later and I just couldn't get into it. But at least give it a try.
