Eh, I love to sound off, so ... Snagged from a few on my flist: Ask me about my unpopular fandom opinion, and I shall spew forth some vitriol for you. Or, you know, express an opinion. Depends how I'm feeling, really. Feel free to be specific. Pick a fandom, any fandom. I'll even offer an opinion on fandoms I know nothing about! (Feel free to include soaps, books, music, musicals, etc!)
But you can call me Bowie: chris ecclestonisiscaughey on December 30th, 2009 04:34 am (UTC)
Doctor Who
Arabian: Dr Who (Nine)arabian on December 30th, 2009 06:47 pm (UTC)

- (Not unpopular to you, but ...) I much prefer Nine over Ten.

- I love David Tennant; I love Ten, but I think both are overrated.

- I think Donna kicks every companion's ass (including Rose -- sorry, Rose, I still love you).

- I can not stand Captain Jack, and while I understand his purpose in the latter part of series one, I would have much preferred he had never shown up, or that they'd gone in a completely different route with the character. Or just cast a different actor.

- On that note? I really, really, really do not like John Barrowman. Damn Torchwood for being so awesome.

- I adore RTD and despise Steven Moffat.

- On that note, if RTD were staying and Tennant going, I'd be thrilled because I'd still have Who -- I refuse to watch it when Moffat takes over -- and I think Matt Smith looks adorable, and as far as I'm concerned, Ten's regeneration is WELL overdue.

- The biggie, of course, I totally ship Abby/Gibbs. Uh huh!

- I don't terribly dislike McGee, but I really don't like him all that much either. He's my least favorite character by far. If he left the show, I'd be cool with it. Any McGee-centric episode makes me roll my eyes and more often than not, I find those episodes the most boring. Gah! Who cares about his potentially psychotic sister? Not I.

- I LOVED Jenny. And this is coming from someone who CAN NOT STAND Lauren Holly; in fact, I've disliked her since she was a wee youngin' on All My Children about twenty years ago. But damn, if I didn't love Jenny. Bawled like a baby when she died.

- I like Tony/Ziva, but my Tony-shipping preference is Tony/Jenny (CHEMISTRY!) and Tony/Kate. Tony/Ziva are okay, I like them because I'm supposed to, but I'm not even remotely gaga for them.

- Haters to the left, I think that NCIS is a damn, good, character-driven show!

Veronica Mars
Big Bang Theory
Arabian: Frisky Businessarabian on December 30th, 2009 07:04 pm (UTC)

- I may despise Kristen Bell -- and based on all I've heard about her, she is an awful person (yeah, who admittedly saves puppies, I'll give her that) -- and I may have major issues with Veronica, BUT, I still love Veronica. She's still my second favorite character.

- This, I don't think, is unpopular in general VM circles, but more in the Logan fandom, but ... I have never, will never want Logan with anyone BUT Veronica.

- I think that Keith and Veronica had a HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE father-daughter relationship. Sexual jokes? Keith leaving her on her own enough to the point of danger she put herself in? Keith letting her get away with so much with nary a slap on the wrist? Keith happy with her dating Duncan, despite the shitty-ass way he treated her after he raped, oh sorry, made love to her drugged-out, barely-there, thought-she-was-his-sister-at-the-time drunken self? (Yes, I know that Keith didn't know that part, but he DID know how Duncan unceremoniously dumped her ass and had to have realized that the king of popularity didn't help her at school or she would have, you know, had friends still.) TERRIBLE FATHER! Plus, Veronica lied to him all the time, and ugh, the sexual jokes??!?! UGH! UGH! UGH!

- I love Meg; I love Parker. Both Alona Tal and Julie Gonzalo were screwed over by Thomas.

- I still maintain that Duncan -- on paper -- is a brilliantly layered character. Teddy Dunn's portrayal shot that all to hell.

- I think that season three as a whole is far better than season two. Yes, season two had overall better episodes, but other than Logan -- and even he was iffy a time or two -- nothing any of the characters did made any sense and Veronica, especially, was terribly OOC. In season three, but for one episode, I understood every action/reaction the characters did/had, whether I agreed with them or not.

- I shipped the HELL out of Keith and Kendall.

- I hated Lamb; not loved to hate him, just flat-out hated him. And I think that Michael Muhney is a one-note actor.

- I like Leonard; I just can't stand him with Penny. But on his own, even with his unlikable traits, I like him, just as I like Howard, Raj, Sheldon, Penny despite their unlikable traits.

- I do not think that Sheldon has Asperger's for a single, solitary second. He CHOOSES to act as he does because he's been giving that leeway his whole life, and his OCD-ness has been catered to. He doesn't have to do so, he just damn well wants to and does it.

- Aside from the yucky that is L/P, I think that season three is just as good as seasons one and two.

- I do not find Kunal Nayar even remotely attractive. Yes, I can see that he is good-looking, but I find nothing especially attractive about him.

- Same for Johnny Galecki.

- And Simon Helberg.

- I think that other than the Sheldon gift-buying storyline, that "The Bath Item Hypothesis" is one of THE worst episodes the show has ever produced. The A-story is terrible, but all anybody remembers is the Sheldon B-story, particularly Penny giving him the Nimoy napkin and his response. I'm sorry, but two minutes -- no matter how great it is -- does NOT make a great episode. Especially when the bulk of the episode sucks royal monkey balls.

- I can not stand Sheldon's Joker smile and cringe whenever I see a gif, even an icon of it. :shudders:

How I Met Your Mother
Arabian: BrOtp (OhMyGod) - cap by buffyxarabian on December 30th, 2009 07:11 pm (UTC)

- I loved the new Lieutenant as a character (just hated him and Dani. Yeah, right!)

- I thought that Crews and his ex-wifey had some hot chemistry.

- I think the show, from the last couple episodes of season four and pretty much all of this season so far, has been not good. At all.

- I do not like Lily; she is, by far, my least favorite character.

- With that said, were it not for Lily/Marshall -- who are adorable -- and Robin/Barney -- who so have the chemistry, I could so easily have shipped Barney/Lily. Oh yeah! (Hmm, honestly, I'm not sure that that is unpopular.)

- I couldn't stand Stella (or Sarah Chalke in the role).

- I want Victoria to be the mother even though that obviously won't happen. I LOVED Ted and Victoria.

- (Gasp!) I don't like Barney this season.

Clearly I'm unpopular too, because I agree with most of those.

(Barney/Lily, hell yes! Crews/ex-wife, yes! Even though I shipped him with Dani more. Boo to Sarah Chalke! (who I liked on Scrubs), HIMYM has been pretty fail this season.)

YES! YES! YES! (Especially Dani/Crews). Uh huh, we are definitely unpopularly in-sync my dear. Hee!

- DEAN is awesome. Oh wait, that's not unpopular, LOL!

- I ADORED AVA! I was so upset when they made her evil. And it was HER, not some demon taking over her, but HER. Grrr. I totally shipped the heck out of Sam and Ava, the only time I actually liked Sam.

- Oh, on that note? Yeah, I don't like Sam.

- The show became too same-y for me and I stopped watching it early season three. Ah well.

- I shipped Dean/Jo -- too bad what happened to her (yeah, found that out).

GLEE (yay! I get to use my Quinn icon!)

- Quinn is my favorite character. TOTALLY.

- Of the Quinn/Finn/Rachel/Puck quad, my preference by far is -- Quinn/Finn, then Rachel/Puck. I don't care about Rachel/Finn or Quinn/Puck at all.

- I don't care that the supporting players are just that ... supporting.

- I'm with Mark Salling -- I HATE Puck's hairstyle.

- Finn is my least favorite character. I blame Cory Monteith in every way for that.

- I enjoy the show, love the songs, but I think it's ridiculously, absolutely overrated. In fact, I think it may be THE most overrated show ever.

Here's a classic fandom we have in common: Gone with the Wind!
Arabianarabian on December 31st, 2009 12:32 am (UTC)
I think I have only one unpopular opinion and it's way more about the book than the movie. I LOVED Ashley. On paper, Ashley was a gorgeous, gorgeously-written character. In my opinion, he was the best-written, most heartbreakingly poignant character in the entire book. Lesley Howard's god-awful portrayal in the film actually so colored my opinion of that that it took five readings of the book before the awesome of Ashley -- and the beauty of the Ashley/Mellie love story -- really struck me.

Other than that? I think I'm on par with the popularly held-thoughts on the awesome that is GWTW!

I know our opinions on these are so different but I love to read it anyway

But! I already know about the couplings you hoped for but were denied, so what else?
Arabian: Booksarabian on January 2nd, 2010 09:02 pm (UTC)

- I shipped Angel/Cordelia from almost the beginning.

- I think that Nicholas Brendon was the best-looking and best-acting male (after ASH) on the show.

- I think that Brendon and Sarah Michelle Gellar have amazing chemistry, the best on the show.

- I think that Alyson Hannigan and James Marsters have the second-best chemistry on the show.

- David Boreanaz and Charisma Carpenter? Third best chemistry.

- James Marsters and Sarah Michelle Gellar? Fourth best chemistry. With that said, I utterly despised the pairing of Buffy and Spike and continue to think it's the most outrageously OOC behavior of a character EVER on a television show. I tried, I really did, but after OMWF, I stopped watching the show. Six years later, I tried to watch OMFW again to see if I could deal with Buffy/Spike. Nope, the ending came and the same feelings of MARNI NOXIN, LEAVE YOUR OOC FANGIRLING FANFIC OFF OF MY AWESOME SHOW erupted.

- I hate Willow; I think Alyson Hannigan is, by far, the show's worst actor ... ever.

- I think that book six all-around (and not just because of the fairly popular opinion that Harry/Ginny were horribly written and came mostly out of nowhere) was terrible. It read to me like JK Rowling twiddled her thumbs until a month before the deadline and suddenly realized it was coming up and scrambled the crap together that was book six in that month.

- OTOH, other than that utterly craptastic fail of an epilogue and Mrs. Weasley' Ellen Ripley "Get away from her, you bitch" moment, okay and the fact that I would have preferred to see, you know, HARRY do more to save the day, I actually quite enjoyed book seven and thought it was a fitting conclusion overall to the series.

- I do not like Hagrid.

- In retrospect, I should have absolutely realized that Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny were, of course, the planned couplings because James/Lilly were so bland, vanilla, shallow and cliched a "love story." Of course.

- I really wanted Ron to die, not because I disliked him, but because it would have mirrored Ron being to Harry what Peter/Wormtail/Scabbers was to James, with Ron choosing the right as opposed to Peter choosing the wrong, and Ron sacrificing himself for Harry as he did in the chess game in book one.

I feel bad for disliking Hagrid, but there it is. As for Willow -- it's Alyson Hannigan. I think she's a cutesy-cute annoying as hell actress. She's a lovely person, from all I've heard, but I can NOT stand her screen persona. And it sucks because I've seen pretty much every thing she's done, was a BtVS fan, Veronica Mars, and How I Met Your Mother. In other words, I continue to be stuck with her. On HIMYM, I've been able to deal with her the best, but she's still my least favorite character on that show.
