Julianne nabs the 'Footloose' Remake Lead
We guess these screen tests went well, as "Dancing with the Stars" pro dancer and country singer Julianne Hough has now landed the lead female role in Paramount's remake of Footloose. The casting is contingent on the studio and Hough working out scheduling, but she would star opposite Chace Crawford.

Filming is set to begin in March with plans for a "more mature version" than the original, says Variety. Dylan Sellers is producing alongside Ortega, Craig Zadan -- a producer of the original film -- and Neil Meron.

Kenny Ortega, helmer of all three "High School Musical" films, will direct.
I'm cautiously excited about this because it could do great things for her career. On the other hand, I was incredibly unimpressed with the original FL, so who knows? But it's Julianne, so if I'm able to, I'll be seeing it!!

Yeah, sigh. I'm hoping he'll surprise me.

That honestly seems like they wanted to cast Zac Efron and couldn't get him, so they were like... "Chace looks just like him, that works too!"

Though IDK, maybe Chace has some serious song-and-dance-man chops or something.

Oh, I agree completely. They wanted him, but he didn't want to be pigeon-holed as the song/dance guy -- which I can understand. I hope CC surprises us.

I'm really happy to hear that I wasn't the only one not impressed with the original version of Footloose. But I do love the big ending dance scene though.

Ooh, I'm not alone. Yay, nice to know. Yeah. It just was so shallow? I dunno. But yeah, great big dance at the end there.
