'Life' is picked up for a FULL SEASON!! WOOHOO!!
I admit that I'm not loving Life as much as I did last season,

1. I like Donal Logue a lot. I will always heart him if for no other reason than the fact that he was awesomely in (and produced) the criminally unappreciated, canceled Knights of Prosperity. But ... this flirtation storyline with Dani is NOT working. It's just not. Number one, they have ZERO chemistry. Number two, I don't buy for a second that Reese would kiss him, let alone date him. Number three, if they wanted to give me a reason, they could have, Reese's self-destructive ways coming to the fore again because of what's going on with daddy-dearest. I'm not seeing that angle as of yet (maybe a teeny spark, but not enough) and so I'm NOT enjoying this thing developing with them.

2. Again, with the liking Donal Logue, but I loved Robin Weigert as the Lieutenant from last season. Yes, it made sense why she was demoted, but seeing her again a few episodes back just made me miss her all the more. Keep Logue, fine, I do like him, but drop the romantic angle with Reese, and bring back Weigert as just another cop on a regular basis so that we can have her back.

3. I miss Dani's look from season one. Compare the first to the second:

Yes, I know that they are just promotional shots to sell the show, and yes, there are a couple of shots from season one promotion that show her in a white tank only as well, BUT, on the show the Dani Reese we saw was the one we saw in the above season one image. The Dani Reese we are seeing this season, while not as overtly sexual as the one we see above, it's a lot closer. Her hair is always down, blowing in the breeze, carefully curled and styled, with auburn highlights now. Her shirts are always unbuttoned a few extra buttons. In season one, she looked like a very attractive woman on the force who toned down her beauty, this season she looks like an actress pretending to be a woman on the force but making sure that her hair, make-up and wardrobe make the most of her beauty.

It's annoying; she was plenty gorgeous without the overkill AND in character and a helluva lot more believable. It's a disservice to Sarah Shahi and the character created in season one.

Speaking of that character: Can we please get back to dealing with Reese and all of her emotional fuck-ups? I think it's coming, we've had small signs here and there -- and hey, maybe the Reese/Lieut stuff IS going to be shown to be indicative of that -- but we're not seeing ENOUGH, and in the meantime, Shahi is mostly just standing around, reacting to Crews and the Lieut. She's a much better actress than that and deserves more.

3. Jessy Schram. Sigh. I said about her casting in my write-up of the premiere:

I don't mind that the oh so annoying Jessy Schram is on this show. Yes, yes, it helps that she looks nothing like she did as Hannah on VM, but still, I'm okay with it because I trust this show so much and know that they knew what they were doing when they cast her.

Alas, while she still looks NOTHING like Hannah (man, what a darker haircolor, style and a few pounds does to change a person's appearance), she's still a craptastic actress and her role was pretty hefty in the last episode. And she did not disappoint in her expected-to-be-lame-ass disappointment. Sigh. I want the Rachel storyline done and over, I want her character to leave, I don't want to have to deal with fucking Jessy Schram. SHE CAN NOT ACT and she is ANNOYING!!!!!!!

4. I like Adam Arkin; I like Ted, but more and more, he feels just shoe-horned in to justify his presence.

5. Bring more of the quirk back. And fruit. We need more fruit.

Still, I love Damian Lewis, I love Charlie, I love Reese, I do like the chemistry between Charlie and his ex (and I understand the motivation behind that story), and I love the overall quirk of the show. I just want less re-tooling, and more of the perfection of season one, still I do believe it can safely be said that I still LOVE this show overall because when I read this: NBC has given a full season order to detective drama "Life," my reaction was:

AAAAH!HH!H!H!H!H!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of joy.

So woohoo to a full season of Life, and hopefully they get all their ducks in a row crackling again.

I agree with everything. I'm so frustrated by the Liet/Dani storyline. It's ruining Dani. I don't like Donal Logue so that doesn't help either. I just miss the kickass, emotionally fucked Dani from S1. I hate the way they are dressing her. How in the world is she able to do anything in those tight pants and jeans? She looks awkward walking in them.

Sigh...I'm so frustrated, but thrilled we got a full season.

Yes, yes, yes. I am still harboring hope though that we ARE going to get back to exploring Dani's fucked-up-ness, but that it's just being repressed right now. But as for the way she's looking? I want it to stop; I want my sensible Reese from season one. Oh well, if I can only have one of the two above change: Exploring Dani emotionally or dressing her more like season one Dani, I am definitely going for option one and that DOES look like a possibility.

I'm so happy this show is renewed. I was seriously worried it wouldn't be. It's a great show that sadly not enough people watch.

I actually don't mind the romance between Reese/Liet. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. I don't like the Charlie/Ex storyline thoughh. While I understand where it is coming from, I'm hoping he'll understand she has moved on and respect her marriage.

I adore Ted. :)

Oh, I despise the Ex. She's a vapid twit in my book. She abandons him in jail. Marries another man, and Charlie is still lusting after her. I don't have any faith in the writers. They won't let this go and bring back the Atty.

It's a destructive relationship. Both should run from it as fast as they can.

This? I agree with.

I HATED the attorney, so I'm glad she's gone. And while I don't like Jennifer, I can see where she's coming from. Yeah, she abandoned him when he was in jail, but we don't know what degree that struggle was, or how difficult it was for her. And then she marries another man because she forced herself to move on, find a new life -- it HAD been twelve years, and then boom! Charlie comes back, he's innocent and it's making her not only question everything that happened in the last twelve years, but also brought back those feelings of a younger, fresher, more innocent time for both her and Charlie.

The actress isn't the greatest -- really, she's not, but I do love the idea of the emotional fall-out being played out. Charlie's held onto this love for twelve years and counting, it's NOT going to go away. And here she is, a woman who DID once very much love him, having this guy -- who, again, she did love -- not only back in her life, but showing her unconditional love and understanding. It's got to be causing major upheaval in her mind and heart.

AGREED. I mean, Charlie seems like an intelligent man, so why is he still chasing after the Barbie?
Arabian: Billie Piper_02arabian on November 9th, 2008 11:09 am (UTC)
Because he loved her very much, and spent twelve years basically building her up to the be love of his life who wound up "getting away." It makes perfect sense to me. Honestly, the more and more I think on it, I really think they could have fixed the problem many have with this by better casting Jennifer.

I don't hate the Reese/Lieut story, I just don't like it because it doesn't make sense character-wise for Reese.

I don't like the Charlie/Ex storyline thoughh. While I understand where it is coming from.
As for Charlie and his ex, because it makes sense, because they have chemistry, I'm fine with it, all the while I'm not expecting a happy ending at all.

I'm hoping he'll understand she has moved on and respect her marriage
Oh see, I see it differently. It's not just about him; it's about her. It makes her question everything that happened in the last twelve years. If she had stuck by Charlie, if he had been acquitted, or if it hadn't happened at all, she never would have divorced Charlie, thus never married this other guy. So in a way she's being put into a situation she never expected and now when she looks at Charlie, she's not seeing the man she forced herself to no longer love because of what he did, but rather the man she was in love with him, and that love last shown brightly when she was in her early to mid-twenties. Because of that, when she's with him, all of those feelings -- not just of love, but of youth -- keep coming to the fore. And I love the emotional fall-out of that coming into play.

I adore Ted. :)
I do like Ted, I just wish that they could figure out how to more organically work him into the show. The pencil/father's fiancee thing from the episode before last did NOT work for me.

I do agree that it must be hard and confussing for both of them, but I know them living in the past will just hurt them more in the end. I'm just hoping it doesn't get anymore uglier than it has between her, him and the new hubby.

I agree Ted doesn't have much to do lately. I worry over his character the most though, because if they ever turned on Charlie or messed up and went back to his old ways, it would break my heart.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote. Yuppers on all counts.
