The OC -- Can I just start watching the current season?
My flist is going ga-ga over Ryan and Taylor from The OC. I do not watch the OC, because I watched the first season (more or less due to a promise to my best friend). I liked elements of it, but found it ridiculously predictable and Misha Barton was quite possibly THE worst actress I've ever seen on prime-time. When I found out that Marisa did NOT die over an overdose at the beginning of S2, any thought of continuing to watch was beyond gone.

However, I know she's dead, and everyone is raving about Ryan/Taylor. So my question is ... when was Taylor introduced? Can I just start watching again from the beginning of this season and get her whole story or do I have to go back further?

I seriously need a couple I can squee over because, frankly, Logan and Veronica are killing my shipper heart and soul. And they are all I have right now.

I watched the first season but hardly watched any of the second and third. I haaaaaaaaaated Mischa Barton/Marissa really hard too, and only tuned in to see her die (which was hilariously executed). So, if you start at the beginning of the fourth season, I think you'd be totally good, especially since you've seen the first season for general context. I didn't know Taylor before this year and I loooooove her to pieces.

Okay. Mischa Barton, seriously? Worse prime-time actress ever. Dear lord, I think Jessy Schram is better than her. She's THAT bad.

Taylor was introduced at the start of S3, and was only supposed to be in a few episodes at the beginning (she took over Marissa's job as social chair.)

To get the Taylor story this season, you can start with the beginning of this, and just know the following facts: Taylor likes anime; Taylor falls for guys really easily (Seth first); she's good at manipulating situations and befriending people who are nice to her; she speaks about 5 languages; her mother is a bitch of epic proportions; she's crazy about sex.

Did this: "you can start with the beginning of this" mean to include the word "season?" I hope so, I'm dling the first 6 eps.

Okay, now what I wanted to know is are there Ryan/Taylor scenes before this season, any build-up or is it all this season?
WeHo M.: OC - Why Me?afrocurl on December 15th, 2006 02:47 am (UTC)
Yes, I did mean to include this season. Sorry!

Hmm, as for buildup there's not too much. They interact at school (Taylor does some things to get Ryan away from Marissa when M is at her new school, and one day she asks Ryan about how solid Seth and Summer are, but nothing in the romantic sense at all.

Are those scenes (or all the Taylor scenes) available to download somewhere so I can just see at least those scenes at a Taylor or Taylor/Ryan website)? I have most of the first 6 downloaded already, so I should be able to watch them this weekend.

I'm not sure, but try looking at this site for any video from last year. It won't be too important to you understanding this season, I can say that much.

Honestly, I'm not caring so much about "understanding" as I am liking to see every moment (if possible) of the characters I'm watching. Little things add up to help create the love of a character. I mean, there are many a small Logan moment that I didn't need to see to understand the arc, but my heart would have been broken a little had I never seen oh, "Antrhomorphic. It's all yours, big guy."

I'll check the site out, thanks.

Ok, that makes sense. I don't know if there are many videos out there, and I'm far too challenged to rip my DVDs for you.

Sorry I'm not more useful right now.

I dled all the ones there (I'm assuming those are all the Taylor/Rayan scenes from S3). I figure if I really like her, I'll just rent S2 and 3 and muddle through them. I'm nothing if not self-sacrificial for my couples, LOL!
WeHo M.: OC - Overshareafrocurl on December 15th, 2006 04:32 am (UTC)
Ok! I'm glad that worked. She's not in S2 at all, so you only have to deal with a few episodes in S3.

As I know you watch Ugly Betty, she's got some scenes in the beginning of S3 with Eric Mabius--those are rather amusing.

Right, I know she's not in S2, but I may break down to watch it just to have the whole picture, but eh, we'll see. I'm NOT that sacrificial, LOL!

Ooh, I love Eric Mabius -- he's like a dorkier, less good-looking, less charismatic, less charming, less talented (wait, there IS a compliment coming) version of Jason Dohring to me. And you all know that I while I do think Jason is dorky, I think he's very good looking, ridiculously, outrageously, damn-near overpoweringly charismatic, pretty awesomely charming and undeniably super-talented to boot. So it's not an insult of Mabius, I love him -- he's just a lesser-than version of Jason to me.

I can't help it. I see him, I think, aww, he's like Jason, but less! And that makes me smile.

I wouldn't watch S2 if I were you. Parts of S3 are bad enough in places, but the Taylor episodes are good!

EM is only in a few episodes, but his character is rather amusing.
