Is this REALLY bad news for Veronica Mars?
I was at zap2it to see if the Studio60 ratings were in and saw not one, not two, but THREE articles on upcoming hour-long shows that the CW is looking at and one of the articles featured three shows. So on the eve of the CW potentially announcing whether they are renewing VM for a full season (KB said after the 3rd or 4th episode), CW announces they are looking at five potential new hour-long shows? Oy!

Please someone tell me this is not something we should be worried about. I'm afraid that it is. Eek. That's five new Pilots they are looking at, I could be wrong, this could be prep for the 2007-2008 season, but I don't know, I'm afraid it may be for midseason replacement.

Eeeek. I just hope that after the flop that was Runaway, they're going to a bit wary cancelling a show that they know has good solid audience and replacing it with something which could totally bomb.

And I hope they wait til after ep 4 to decide, we're bound to get much higher retention rates from GG that week :p

I only saw the numbers for the first week, are they still much lower than GG or are they beginning to even out?

I agree, they've had some BAD experiences with the shows they picked this year. 7th Heaven turned out to be a bust, and Runaway is just bad. I don't think the CW wants to alienate another hardcore fanbase.

Yikes. If they do cancel the show I hope they at least give Rob some warning so he can conclude the show or at least the mystery arc to some satisfaction. I think I'd be distraught if the show was left hanging, unresolved - or worse - LoVe in splitsville.

I thought the ratings were indicating that VM was retaining 70% of GG's audience . . . I thought that would be good enough and now I'm all freaked out again. And it sucks that I can do NOTHING to help you guys out ratings-wise. Someone turn on a TV for me! *sniffle*

I saw the same thing Jennifer and I do indeed think it means VM fans should be worried. But obviously the CW has to start developing something or simply close up shop. (Though darn it I've been pitching a dance show in my mind for like forever. I've always thought one would work).

I think that GG is probably on it's last year, 7th Heaven and Runaway are both dead shows walking and VM is on shaky ground. And it will all come down to the ratings. I doubt these could be ready too quickly however. It all looks like next season to me.

This isn't good news, but so far all of the spin from the ratings seems to be in VM's favor.

I'm not sure how long that will last, but I'm going to be hopeful for a full season.

These don't really concern me. This is the time of year these stories start coming out for the next fall season. For example, VM started appearing in development news around October of 2003 and Lost was in January 2004. They were both for the 2004-05 season. It seems to me that the networks give someone a go-ahead to develop a pilot now so that they have an episode already in the can when it's time to make decisions around May for their fall schedule. The CW knows that, with or without VM, they're going to need more new shows next season than they did this one.

As far as replacements go, since mid-season is only 3 months away, I think our main worries would be what they've already seen an actual pilot for. (Like Hidden Palms.) And reality shows.

The one news item that does concern me, though, is that Diane Ruggiero got a pilot commitment from the CW. I'd hate to lose her next season. (Heh. Next season. How's that for positive thinking?)

Bazring a miracle, there will be no fourth season. That's pretty much a given, I think, LOL!

Well, I've been having a Negative Nancy Day about everything else around me, so I had to throw some positivity out there for something, rational or not. :)
