Okay, this does look totally epic ...

but, I still am NOT feeling Josh Hutcherson or Liam Hemsworth as Peeta or Gale. Now, admittedly, I'm more butthurt over Hutcherson because I HEART Peeta SO MUCH!, but the look of this does *feel* like the Hunger Games. I just hope that when watching it -- because I will so be watching it -- that Peeta and Gale (especially Peeta) works. If Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence have chemistry that will certainly help. As for Lawrence as Katniss, well, she's a great actress and I suppose she looks the part overall enough, but yeah, I'll just have to wait and see how it plays out. She's certainly way more Katniss than either boy is Peeta or Gale though.

Still, yeah, it does look and feel like THG and that's uber-important. I'll give them that.

ETA: Not that it stopped me from making an icon in hopes that they will work in the movie! I did like the vibe in that scene, I will say!:)

One more edit: So I've rewatched it a few more times, and I have to say, already that both actors are growing on me and feeling more right. I don't want to be excited because I don't want it to suck, but this really does FEEL right. And, yeah, even the casting is feeling better now. :D

I have admittedly never really liked the casting overmuch, but I really love the feel of this trailer, insanely so. And all three of the main characters managed to make me feel something in the trailer, which is insanely rare, so I am really getting insanely excited about this!

LOL at all the 'insanely' :-)

March is too far away!

I was really concerned about this girl playing Katniss but I REALLY like the emotion she's getting across here. Especially when she's volunteering for Prim!

I agree; that was my favorite moment. She is a great actress, so that really helps.

Yeah, the feel of it feels VERY much like THG and that's what I'm insanely excited about. :)

But!!! EH! I LOVE the casting of Josh Hutcherson! For me, it wasn't about the look, it was about the spirit of the character. I love Hutcherson as an actor, but I was more excited by how enthusiastic he was about this role. It didn't seem, to me, like he wanted the role because it was a big meaty part, but more that he wanted it because he loved the source material and the character of Peeta. I am very confident that he's going to do justice to the character! I just hope that everyone gives him a chance. I've heard so much hate on message boards, most of it geared towards him, that I'm afraid that even if he gives an Oscar worthy performance, people will continue to complain that he doesn't look the part. *sigh*

Not that I think that *you* won't give him a chance... this really isn't directed at you, you just gave me a platform. My frustration level is peaked right now from reading comments on articles.

I think this trailer looks awesome, and I'm even MORE excited for it than I was before. As soon as I'm done with Flowers I'm going to re-read The Hunger Games.

*grumble* I need an icon!
Laurelcorusca on November 15th, 2011 04:26 pm (UTC)
Oh, I've totally been hating on Josh Hutcherson, not because of his LOOKS, but because he has always played whiny little emokids that make me want to stab him...and I'll be REALLY sad if he gets emo all over Peeta :( Hopefully that's just been some typecasting and he'll be perfectly capable of delivering the Boy with the Bread.

I've only seen half of The Kids are Alright and he did nothing for me, and there is this lack of, I dunno, heart? on his face and that is Peeta to me. I do like what he's said in interviews, and it's obvious how much he loves the character, I'm just scared because I ADORE Peeta. And he does not look or feel AT ALL like the Peeta in my mind when reading the books.

The trailer really does look amazing though.

(Do let me know, if you don't write it up, what you think of Flowers from the Storm when you're done).

If you want, you can take this icon?

Yeah, I was a little iffy on the trailer, but your right. The casting and everything else really grows on you. Now I can't stop myself from getting excited. :)
Arabian: Damon & Elena15arabian on November 16th, 2011 05:02 pm (UTC)
It really does. I just keep watching it and it just really FEELS like the book. When District 12 is walking into the open area for the reading, the little trilling from Effie, the Capitol watching on their screens in the different ways. It just felt right.

Just like you and many others, I was very unsure and confused by the casting choices for Peeta and Gale. I've been trying very hard to remain open-minded and not judge the casting choices before I see the movie myself, but it's hard to follow through with that thinking when I have so many expectations for THG. Admittedly, I'm not really familiar with Hutcherson's other roles, so I'm unsure what his acting range is. Hopefully he can deliver and I can put this indecisiveness about Hutcherson playing Peeta to rest for good.

The only thing I ever saw Hemsworth in was Knowing, and it wasn't a memorable performance or movie (overall) for me. Here's to hoping that opening night of this movie quells any of my doubts.

So I've rewatched it a few more times, and I have to say, already that both actors are growing on me and feeling more right. I don't want to be excited because I don't want it to suck, but this really does FEEL right. And, yeah, even the casting is feeling better now. :D

The more I watched the trailer, the more it grew on me. Enough times watching, and it started to give me chills. I still have my doubts, though, but this is only my method of keeping realistic expectations for the movie just in case. I agree that it does have the "feel" of the THG. So if the rest of the movie can continue to replicate those vibes up and the acting is solid, I really think I could love this movie.

I've only seen him in a half a movie and he played a sullen teen, so that didn't help. But the way he delivers the line when he and Kat are on the roof in this trailer is really helping because that sentiment is the heart of who Peeta is and he sounded/felt exactly like Peeta.

As for Hemsworth, I only know him as Miley Cyrus' boyfriend (LOL!), but he's looking better on screen in this, and the small moments we see with him are working for me too

Yup, that's how I feel.

I've watched it over and over, and I am falling all over myself in anticipation.

When you imagine Peeta (whom I also love most dearly) who do you see? Anyone in particular?
Arabian: Damon04arabian on November 16th, 2011 05:07 pm (UTC)
It's really hard not to because it really does feel like THG!

I didn't actually picture anyone while reading it, but pics of actors during the filming process came up and Hunter Parrish seemed to fit the look of Peeta much more than Hutcherson, but based on interviews, Hutcherson REALLY got the role, so I'm hopeful. And as I said above to safetywords, the way he delivers the line when he and Kat are on the roof in this trailer is really helping because that sentiment is the heart of who Peeta is and he sounded/felt exactly like Peeta.

I'm a huge Jennifer Lawrence stan, so I was always on board with her casting. She's always so funny and down to earth in interviews, and she comes off as really intelligent and thoughtful about the characters she's plays. I think after seeing her in Winter's Bone that that convinced me that she had the strength to play Katniss.

But when they first announced the casting for Peeta and Gale, I thought the world was ending, lol. (Okay, not really, that's an exaggeration, but I was really not pleased). I still don't care much for Hemsworth as Gale - idek, he still just doesn't feel right. But maybe the movie will change my mind. Hutcherson, otoh, I've really warmed up to. Peeta is my favorite, and I ship Katniss/Peeta like burning, so I really want to see the movie do them justice. And, well, Hutcherson at least seems to understand the character; he said his favorite scenes to film were the ones with Katniss in the cave, so he gets how important those are. *Shrug* I'm trying to be optimistic.

Also, you're icon is gorgeous.
Arabian: Katniss & Peeta01arabian on November 16th, 2011 05:11 pm (UTC)
I can't bring myself to watch Winter's Bone because it sounds so depressing, but my sister watched it and she found out that she was playing Katniss about a week after she watched it and she was like "ooh! she'll be perfect!" so that made me hopeful.

I didn't think Hemsworth felt right for Gale either, but the more I watch it, he does seem to be hitting that right note (of course, this is based on the snippets), but still.

Thank you, I kept playing with it and playing with it to get the right lighting because it was really dark!

The trailer made me very excited! I'm really looking forward to it. I should get a Hunger Games icon.

However, two things gave me pause:
1) Haymitch's hair! Lord, that is going to be distracting.
2) The backpack Katniss grabbed isn't orange! A small detail, I know, but I noted it immediately.

This was filmed all around me, so I'll be extra-curious to see the scenery.

I'm not familiar enough with the actors playing Gale and Peeta to have an opinion about them. I hope they're great. For some reason I didn't have a real look for most of the characters fixed in my mind while reading, so I didn't freak out about any of the casting. I would never have thought of Woody for Haymitch, but I think he'll be great. I would have never thought of Donald Sutherland for President Snow, but it's an inspired choice. Lenny Kravitz seemed to be out of left field, but in actuality, he's almost exactly how I pictured Cinna (my favorite character). The little girl playing Rue was a real force in "Colombiana." And I think Jennifer Lawrence is great. (Winter's Bone was my favorite of the Best Picture nominees.) Given all that, I give the casting directors the benefit of the doubt on Peeta and Gale.

BTW, I was Katniss for Halloween. :-)

Haymitch's hair didn't bother me because I figured that Haymitch WOULD have distracting hair, LOL!

And you're right, it isn't orange, but there is orange on it? Hmm, it seems a small thing, but that was part of Katniss' problem because it was so bright, but if they get the big stuff right, I won't complain too much

This was filmed all around me, so I'll be extra-curious to see the scenery.

Ooh, cool.

I'm not familiar with either actor as well, just based on looks alone, they didn't feel right, however, I am feeling better after watching this. All of the casting of the people I know feels right, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

BTW, I was Katniss for Halloween. :-)

Awesome!
