Joining the year-end Fandom meme
1. Your main fandom of the year: The Vampire Diaries. Not only is it my fandom of the year, this may turn out to be my fandom of my lifetime. I have NEVER even remotely loved a show this much before. A couple on a show? Absolutely, but the entire show itself? Never, not at all, and I've adored shows in the past, but this show ... gah, it owns my soul!

2. Your favorite Film this year: Toy Story 3. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me think about life and growing up, my past, present and future. Loved it.

3. Your favorite Book read this year: I don't care, I really don't. Julia Quinn's The Lost Duke of Wyndom. Yes, it's an historical romance novel and I don't care. It was WONDERFUL! Great, original characters, no stupid miscommunications and misinformation, good plotting, fantastic romance. I LOVED IT! I still maintain how much I loved that book, but yeah, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins wins this handily now.

4. Your favorite Album or Song this year: Album - Eminem's "Recovery." There were a few songs I didn't love, but so many more that were incredibly powerful. Song - "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift. I find it one of the most lushly romantic songs I've ever heard. I can't explain it, but I adore it so. It's just ... ahhh! Glorious. I love it so!

5. Your favorite TV Show this year: Duh, The Vampire Diaries It's smart, funny, heartbreaking, fast-paced, deeply character-motivated, has a gorgeously epic/angsty love story at its heart (imo), fantastic friendships (long-term, budding), great familial relationships, cliffhangers, shockers, great acting, great writing, great directing, gorgeous girls, beautiful boys and in a category all on his own, the utterly delectable Ian Somerhalder.

6. Your favorite LJ Community this year: Probably ONTD.

7. Your best new Fandom Discovery of the Year: And a-one, and a-two, and a-three ... The Vampire Diaries.

8. Your biggest Fandom Disappointment of the Year: I hate saying this, but Community. My disappointment actually started towards the latter part of last season, and but for a few episodes this season has continued. Don't get me wrong, it's still funny, I still love Abed, Annie, Troy and heart Jeff and Annie to bits, but overall, the show just isn't the show that I fell in love with during the first half of its season.

9. Your TV Boyfriend of the year: Ian Somerhalder. I LOVE HIM TO BITS AND BITS AND BITS! So pretty, such a great guy, so awesome. So, so, so, unbelievably gorgeous. Seriously, the guy's looks are surreal.

10. Your TV Girlfriend of the year: Nina Dobrev. Girl is knock-out gorgeous. I hate her. No, I love her. I hate her

11. Your biggest Squee moment of the year? The Damon/Elena dance. I still can't believe we got over a minute of the two dancing, eye-fucking, melting my television screen. SQUEE!!!

12. Your most Missed Old Fandom: Doctor Who. I am still watching it, and I adore Matt Smith, but my issues with Steven Moffat, and the departure of the Doctor/Rose aspect of the series (with Russell T Davies) basically took out the obsession aspect of it for me.

13. Your Fandom that you haven't tried Yet, but want to? I honestly can't think of one.

12. Your Biggest Anticipations of the New Year: I was disappointed in the fall finale of The Vampire Diaries, so I'm not as excited as I thought I would be for its return (eh, Rose might die? Uhm, okay then.) However, I do still madly adore the show and expect its general brand of kickass to return with it, so I'll list the return of The Vampire Diaries. As well, I'll add to that season three of Parks & Recreation (Adam Scott, I &hearts you), and the premiere of Mr. Sunshine with Matthew Perry &hearts and Allison Janney (!!!) &hearts .

Yup. I am still into the fandom from a retrospective point of view, but I have the same issues you do. I'm hoping the next head writer (whenever that may be) will be better. I really don't see what people see in Moffat, I bought into the hype at first and kept expecting the "genius" to show up. Then it never did and I was all standing there wondering, "what are these people seeing that I don't? And why are they ragging on RTD, he was so much better than this stuff!!"

Toy Story 3 hurt too much. Thanks for reminding me that my childhood is gone, Disney/Pixar! :p

Alas! Doctor Who! I knew it well, Horatio.... Or something. xD

Aww, re: Toy Story 3.

Yeah, Doctor Who, I totally get how you/re still a part of it though by doing the rewatch. If I hadn't found another fandom to obsess over (TBBT at the time), I probably would have continued to do the same thing.

It's the series that she did after TLDOW. They are really funny
Arabian: Booksarabian on December 24th, 2010 03:07 am (UTC)
Ah, I'm sure I'll get to them eventually. I've read most of Julia Quinn's stuff, I love her.

^ THIS!! ALL of this!! the only thing that rivals my obsession with TVD is my former obsession with Harry Potter O_O

I've never had a show I was this obsessed with. I mean, you don't know me that well, but I'm fiercely protective of my couples, and I tend to be angsty and venting against other aspects that negatively affect my couple. I am not liking Stefan/Elena at all this season, but I did like them last season, and I LOVE Stefan. Plus, other shows, I only have icons mostly for my couples, but this show I have icons for so many characters, and other couples, it's crazy. I just love this show SO VERY MUCH!

I had a period where I was obsessed with HP, but I was one of those silly people who liked Harry/Hermione, so yeah, didn't last that long, LOL!
Myra: Katherinemidnightblack07 on December 22nd, 2010 06:54 pm (UTC)
ooh I know what you mean!! I'm interested in almost every character on this show, I mean I can read well written fanfics about pretty much any one of them in any given situation/ship (although I do of course have my favorites and you've probably guessed them hehe ;))

I actually thought it was going to be Harry/Hermione up until Prisoner of Azkaban and still sort of lament that it isn't :( I just don't *get* Hermione and Ron & Harry and Ginny was just too abrupt for my taste... *sighs* him and Hermione would have been epic...
Arabian: Katherine01arabian on December 22nd, 2010 10:35 pm (UTC)
Heh, I was convinced they were doing Ron/Hermione until Order of the Phoenix which was just ripe with AWESOME Harry/Hermione, and then book six shot that all to hell. I can deal with H/R, even if I don't like them, but I LOATHE Ginny/Harry SO VERY MUCH!

Oh, there will be a new show with Matthew Perry? I didn't even know that, so thanks for mentioning it. I definitely have to watch that, I love Matthew Perry.

The MMF dance scene *sigh* I have no words and the scene kills me every single time ♥
Arabian: Damon & Elena03arabian on December 23rd, 2010 10:23 pm (UTC)
Yup, it looks awesome!! See?

Oh the dance!!!

As for Julia Quinn, ain't nothing wrong with digging the historical romances! I digged them for a good 15 years or so... then my life got so crappy they made me wanna cry. But I know I'll check them out again someday. I'll keep your recc in mind.
