Damon/Katherine cut snippet (Woohoo!)
I found an awesome new Ian Somerhalder site that has many goodies (including this unaired pilot he did -- Fearless). Well, they had up a CW promo for the show that recaps moments from season one, and it features a teeny cut snippet of Damon and Katherine from the "Children of the Damned" opening scene.

I grabbed some screencaps of it too -- Click on the images for bigger pics.

that is so awesome and hot, seems like an awesome site!

It's French, but as long as I can see the pics/watch the vids, it's all good. :)

WHEEEEEEEEEEE!

Fearless actually got a little better as it went on (aka, once Ian showed up). Hard to buy concept, but would have been interesting to see what happened.

Good to know. I'm going to watch it now (for reals this time!).

(PS: You've so got to get more Ian icons!)

I'm interested to know what you thought of it.

I know I do. I'm so picky and have not really found any in the icon communities I belong to. It took forever to find this one. Where did you find yours?

I'm interested to know what you thought of it.

I'll copy what I posted in Twitter with a bit more ... It was an interesting premise. I thought Rachel Leigh Cook was miscast at first, but she really did work for the role. Her deadpan style of delivery made the fearless part work, and yet she was able to project warmth with the characters. I like Bianca Dawson, and Eric Balfour fine, while Gregory Itzin is awesome. Sadly, Ian's character was more on the pathetic-Boone-ish side, as opposed to the kick-ass awesome-Damon side, but I really think that no one in casting thought Ian had that in him, thus the studio not even wanting to hire him for Damon. So, yeah, he was kinda typecast in the pretty, vaguely pathetic, must-be saved, sensitive roles a LOT. Still, he was obviously the male lead, and as always when it comes to Somerhalder and love interests -- seriously, how *does* he do it?!?! -- he and Cook had chemistry. That was a hot kiss, and a nice love story set-up, I thought.

I'm kinda bummed they never gave it a chance, because while creaky -- as many pilots are -- I think it could have actually grown into something pretty interesting. Oh well.

Where did you find yours?

I make all of my own icons. If you're interested, feel free to breeze through them, snag any you'd like. :)

Hmph, I didn't know the studio didn't want him for Damon. (my obsession love of Ian is rather new. I've always found him attractive, but it wasn't until I started following him on Twitter that the obsession love started. Well, that and he appeared in a dream I had one night. ;) ) Glad that he proved them wrong. WAY. WRONG.

how *does* he do it?!?!

The pretty. How could his female co-stars NOT want to get with that?

I'm kinda bummed they never gave it a chance, because while creaky -- as many pilots are -- I think it could have actually grown into something pretty interesting. Oh well.

I agree. Shittastic shows like Cavemen, The Beautiful Life, Brothers and dozens of others get greenlit. I don't get it.

But at least it left him open to do TVD when it came around.

feel free to breeze through them, snag any you'd like.

Thank you! Don't mind if I do!

Yes, the pretty, but there are other actors out there who are good-looking who don't manage to strike it hot with EVERY SINGLE ACTRESS/ACTOR they are paired with (I include actor because, dangit, yes, he and James Van Der Beek had chemistry in Rules of Attraction too). I think it just must be his insane charisma, and possibly the fact that he really does seem to enjoy life and love and connecting with people in real life, and that translates on screen.

Yeah, he almost didn't get the role on TVD because the network wasn't too keen on him, but Kevin Williamson pushed a bit, and gave him the note about Damon having a Cary Grant-esque quality. (That's how Ian has said he plays him now, a cross between Cary Grant and Mick Jagger, LOL!) I don't think that he even read with Nina, just Paul, so not only were they not sure about Ian as Damon (which, obviously, boggles the mind now), but they had NO IDEA how explosive and OHMYGODTHERE! the chemistry between he and Nina would be.

Aww, you grabbed some icons, glad you liked them. :) BTW: I'm working on a whole bunch more from each episode and will probably do a post with them when I have a certain number of episodes done.

It's been awhile since I've seen RoA. Like a LONG time. Probably shortly after it came out on DVD. I need to remedy that. Actually, I do remember watching it on TV within the past 6 months or so, but not from start to finish and I didn't see any scenes with him.

I do agree that it's definitely a combination of the pretty and his natural charisma. (or at least the charisma I see). I also think he's a talented actor on top of it and that goes a long way in helping.

I agree that the chemistry he and Nina have is explosive and so much hotter than Nina/Paul (I do think they have chemistry too, which is part of why the show works so well). Nina is certainly one of the luckiest women in the industry getting to work (and getting paid to kiss) with all that pretty. I hate her. (ok, not really)

possibly the fact that he really does seem to enjoy life and love and connecting with people in real life,

And this is one of the reasons why I really started liking him. His passion for the environment and for animals (two things I care deeply about), his zest for life and how humble he seems to be (at least on twitter). I just wish he'd respond to people a bit more, and quit responding to the fans that badger him (oh lord, there's one that has yelled at him on Twitter, and he's responded a couple of times to. I'm like "DUDE. Quit responding to them! Talk to the ones who don't scream at you!". Interact with them, and post a few happy tweets occasionally, as opposed to all the gloom and doom stuff he seems to do lately. ;)

Can't wait to see what you're working on. Like I said, I've had a hard time finding ones that I like. Either the picture isn't the best, the cropping sucks or there's too much text overlay. I probably could have taken more, but want to leave some space for new ones. :D
Arabian: Damon04arabian on August 1st, 2010 04:38 pm (UTC)
Ah, I clipped (imo) the only worthwhile bits of the film (aka, the awesome Ian scenes). You can find them here in this post.

I do agree that it's definitely a combination of the pretty and his natural charisma. (or at least the charisma I see). I also think he's a talented actor on top of it and that goes a long way in helping.

Agreed. Great acting is not necessary to create chemistry, but it sure as hell helps sell it. And sell it he does!

Yeah, that was what I was most surprised at with this show. You don't know me that well yet, but I'm a DIE-HARD couple girl. Anyone else one-half of my couple is paired with I'm very anti, I can't help it. But I do think Elena and Stefan are cute, and that Nina and Paul do have a sweet, muted chemistry. Were it not for how OMYGOD! the Ian/Nina chemistry was, I'd probably be happy with Stefan/Elena as a couple. I would never ship them or be obsessed, but I'd enjoy them as the show's main pairing and be fine with it. And that's really a testament to (a) the fact that Paul and Nina do have chemistry, (b) the overall good writing of the pair (although, that back-and-forth period between eps 7 and 9 about drove me mad -- the only really off note, imo, in the show once they hit ep 4 -- it was just way, way too much teenage, melodramatic, lovestory manufacture angst).

Interact with them, and post a few happy tweets occasionally, as opposed to all the gloom and doom stuff he seems to do lately. ;)

I yelled at him recently when he responded to the person asking if he ever replied to fans and he claimed that he did (LIAR! He's a lying mclyerson who lies!!!) because he practically does not EVER! Except that, like you said, when someone calls him out. Oh, Ian. One good thing is that I've noticed that once production started again, he's gone back to tweeting some show-related, more light-hearted stuff (ie, "How are anchovies even legal?"). Not that I don't appreciate how much he cares about the envirionment, animals, etc., but it was getting REALLY depressing there for awhile, as we discussed on Twitter. It's like, 'Ian, dude, I love you and all, but my life is depressing enough, please to be stopping with that now and then. I can take only so many links to oil-covered dying animals. I've seriously done what I can at this point.'

Can't wait to see what you're working on.

I've cropped a huge handful of potential icons up to episode six (well, I'm doing ep 6 right now), and I'll play with those before moving onto other episodes. It's a mix of all of the characters I have saved screencaps of (Damon, Elena, Caroline, Stefan, Katherine, Alaric, Pearl*). I've got 60 saved at this point for potential icon-age. Some will work, some won't. We'll see.

*Heh, I just realized, yup, those are the ones on my favorite character list, and I didn't even take into account the caps I had saved when writing that. Clearly I know my own mind quite well, LOL!

Hee! I like to do matching icons, and in this case, it's perfectly matchin! :D

I will respond to the rest of this post later, as I have to get my ass moving, but....

I still can't believe we actually found each other through ONTD of all places!

I know, right? I hesitated saying anything to you because I didn't want to sound all stalker/creepy, but I figured what the hell. I had actually checked out your journal already and got kinda excited when I saw we were nearly the same age.

And looking through your userpics and tags/entries, it seems like we have a lot more in common than just Ian/TVD too.

As much as I like Damon/Elena, my TV OTP will always and forever be Denny Crane + Alan Shore.

AND THEY GOT MARRIED!!! (I did pick this icon as one of the six, heh!)

I do love finding people my age on lj (so rare, sigh!). Yeah, ONTD is not generally a breeding ground for finding people you click with, so I'm glad you took the risk. I'm enjoying our "discussions." :)

I look forward to reading the rest of your response later.
Vickiesarcasticcheese on August 2nd, 2010 12:21 am (UTC)
lthough, that back-and-forth period between eps 7 and 9 about drove me mad

Same here. I was like, "YO, Kev. Didn't we get enough angst in Twilight? Let's move it along here and get back to the story." Luckily it only lasted a few episodes.

LIAR! He's a lying mclyerson who lies!!!

I saw that tweet too and was like O RLY? When? I'm looking at your timeline dude and there are only a couple.

The one that got me was when he tweeted about the Be The One petition and didn't include the link. I responded almost immediately after he tweeted that, asking him to include the link. 8 hours later, he retweets someone who had said "DAMMIT, POST THE FUCKING LINK! blahblahblah" and he did. I was like, "DUDE, I asked nicely like 8 hours ago to tweet the link. Do I have to be obnoxious in order to get a response from you?" I'm sure it's hard to even attempt to respond to people when you have that many followers, but pick one or two to respond to. Use twitter what it's for - interacting with people. ;)

In re: to Caroline...

Her character gets better as the season goes on, but I HATED her in the beginning. I hate characters that think they're all that, and she was just such a fucking bitch. Once she and Matt hooked up, I grew to hate her less. Then I started hating Bonnie.

The pathetic thing in all of this is I'm now starting to figure out how quickly I can scrape together the money to come visit my friend in Atlanta so I can stalk visit the set. I just want to glimpse the pretties in person.

Also, the other part of my team at work is based in Roswell, and I'm trying to figure out a way that I can get myself sent down there and have my airfare and hotel paid for. But, I'll have better luck just going to visit my friend. And my brain goes "She works for CNN, which is Time Warner, which is Warner Brothers. Maybe she can find out inside scoop for me," even though I know she can't. Ugh, I need help.
Arabian: Ian Somerhalder01arabian on August 2nd, 2010 12:54 am (UTC)
Yeah, I love Ian, but he does NOT use his twitter to interact with fans at all, which is his prerogative, but it's still slightly frustrating.

Re: Caroline -- See, I don't see Caroline that way at all. That's what I love about her. She's never thought she was all that, she put on a front, but she always felt (and still does) less than. That line to Bonnie in the end about it being a competition breaks my heart, because what she's not saying is that she always comes in second place, no matter how hard she tries. I wrote a whole bit on it in my 5 favorite characters post.

Now Bonnie I loved prior to her return in the last four episodes. All of her awesome just went away with Grams. *sigh* (It doesn't help that Katerina Graham kinda annoys me.)

Hah, I live in Georgia (about an hour and a half from where they shoot), but (a) I'm unemployed, and can't justify the gas cost, and (b) I just can NOT do something like that alone. I have a sorta actress friend who knows one of the cast (they used to work together) and she told me that she would ask him to arrange a set visit, but damnit, she's SO forgetful and, sigh, hasn't done it yet. :(

Ok, I will agree that she's really insecure and it's all a front. I just didn't like the front she was putting up. She did get better as the season went on, and I was happy she won the Founder's Day pageant.

I was the same with Bonnie - I liked her when she was all "WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME?" and first discovering her witch-ness. But once Grams got involved (and when she showed up I was like "SWEET JEEBUS, that's Jasmine Guy. She has NOT aged well at all!" /shallow) and especially when she came back, I really hated her.

If I knew the setup, I wouldn't mind so much doing it alone. But it's infinitely more fun when you have someone to do it with. I'm hoping that maybe February or March (when it's freakin' cold here), I can come down to Atlanta. Who knows, maybe we could meet up. :)

Yeah, I love Ian, but he does NOT use his twitter to interact with fans at all, which is his prerogative, but it's still slightly frustrating.

Agreed. And I do understand that it's probably overwhelming. And he also has a life and doesn't spend a bajillion hours a day on Twitter like I do. ;)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't ship Damon/Katherine AT ALL. I actually do ship Stefan/Katherine (not like crazy-obsessed, but I really like the idea of them), but I can't help but enjoy the Damon/Katherine scenes because of the sheer factor of Nina and Ian's RIDICULOUS chemistry.
