'Perfect Parents' (with Christopher Eccleston)
Still going through the Eccleston, Piper, Tennant and Tate filmography (as listed in this this post) and I got Perfect Parents with Christopher Eccleston from Netflix this weekend. I really had no interest in this beyond Eccleston's appearance, and was honestly expecting it to be kinda lame. I dunno why, I just did.

As I put it on, I was even thinking that I'd probably fast-forward it and then I saw that it was written and directed by Joe Ahearne whose name I immediately recognized from Doctor Who (he directed Bad Wolf which I just reviewed, along with Boom Town, Father's Day, and Dalek -- in other words, all but one of my favorite series one Who episodes). So I settled down to watch.

Great movie. Great acting, great writing, great direction. Deep-thinking, one little white lie builds to immense after effects and in the midst of it is this wonderfully bright child. The film highlights the dramatic (and sometimes terrible) heights that parents will go to for love of their children. However, it's presented with a much lighter hand than say The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader -- yes, that one was true, but the point is that whereas what happened in that flick was practically unbelievable, real or not. In this, things just build and build that you can almost understand why the characters wind up where they do at the end. Also, fabulous writing of a religious figure (the headmistress nun, Sister Antonia) and her final line is good. Very, very good.

Obviously, Eccleston is good, but Susannah Harker (who I recognized from A&E's Pride & Prejudice) is also wonderful. As is Maddy Garrood as their daughter, Lucy.

All in all, a great film. If you can, check it out.

Watched this one a few months back. I agree with you. It's a good film. Great plot and twist. The actors & actresses are wonderful. Recommended.
