My car just fell apart and I'm driving to Georgia on Monday
No, not a joke. I was driving down main street and I heard a loud crank, then my steering wheel starting spinning without stopping. I called the police, who called a tow guy. We got the car to a place and I was able to get a hold of a guy who fixes car and the determination was that the engine cradle bolts rusted through and bottom-line, the car can't be fixed.

Did I mention that I'm driving to Georgia from Ohio on Monday?

The good news is that the guy who has the body shop has a car he can sell me for $1,200 that will work and I can buy it from him tomorrow. Of course, this means, I'm out $1,200 of my savings for when I get to Georgia and as I don't have a job yet, this is very scary, as that doesn't leave me as much of a cushion as I desperately hoped to have. Donations welcome! Sigh, the other good news is that Tom (tow guy) knew someone -- who just happened to be in my town and at the Waffle House across from where I live -- who buys junk cars. My car was towed to my house, said guy came over and although he's hasn't been paying more than a hundred lately because scraps aren't going for much now, he either fell for my charm (hah!) or my story and gave me $150.00. That's something.

Sigh. I'm trying not to freak out. Really trying. But I'm freaked. Seriously freaked. I can not believe this happened and I'm scared shitless about my money situation come Georgia if I don't get a job ASAP.

Oh honey! I hope everything works out, and think of it this way, at least it didn't go while you were driving to Georgia. Hope everything starts going up from here!

Yeah, that's what I keep thinking of. Thank GOD it didn't happen, it will be my, my best friend and my three cats in the car and I just don't even want to think of what could have hpepned.

Oh, God, Jennifer!

Sigh. I hope you are not too terribly shaken.

This is so unfortunate. Being in a rather precarious position as it is, I can imagine how scary this is for you. What with the move and having to find a job fast!

Listen, I want to help. E-mail me your address (in George, I presume, because you are going there on Monday). I'm sending you a check. I wish I could cover the whole amount, but, sadly, it's a bit out of my range. But I can at least ease some of your burden.

Seriously, hon, take a deep breath, don't freak out. It's going to be okay!

Thank you. I'm past the freaked out portion, stopped crying and am trying to enter a Zen-like state.

I'll email you and I can't thank you enough. Honestly, I could really use the help. So thank you so much.

That's a weird coincidence
I'm flying to Ohio on Friday because my niece graduates a week from Tuesday, where in Georgia are you moving to?

I used to know people who lived outside of Atlants they moved back to Florida though.

I'm sure you'll find a job soon, I finally have two interviews myself next week. I'll think good thoughts for you.

Yeah, I'll be with my sister and family the first night and then I have an apartment already. She has internet, so I'll get on once I get there and am a bit settled.

Outside of Atlanta. There's a daycare nearby and I already spoke with the owners, so there's that I'm gonna try and I'm also looking into working with MRDD because working with individuals who need help is something I could making a career out of through the official channels with my experience and help do what is best for them with someone on the inside who has worked with them.

I just have to hope and pray I get a job before my money runs out or I just don't even want to think about it. I had a nice cushion and this, well, this just is not good.

Oh, man, that sucks! If it's not one thing, it's another, isn't it? That damn Murphy and his damn Law.

Like somebody else said, at least it didn't happen on your drive to Georgia. That would have been even worse.

Try not to freak out as best you can (I know, easier said than done!). You could get a job really fast! I hope everything works out. ::hugs::

Yikes, that's an awful break. I see why you're freaked. I'll echo what everyone else said though-at least it happened before you got on the road. That would have been even worse.

Best of luck to you in GA. I'm sending positive vibes for a quick and easy job search.

What's MRDD? One of my former patients owns a home healthcare service. I can probably get you in touch with her. It's in Atlanta, but I've had 2 patients who've worked for her and they've held steady positions.

Sorry about the car. Glad you got another one. And don't worry...things will work out.

Arabianarabian on May 26th, 2007 12:30 pm (UTC)
Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities.

Yeah, getting in touch wouldn't be a bad idea. Depending on how much the pay is, I could deal with the gas prices.

I don't have the car yet, hopefully today. If not, I don't even want to think about what I'm going to do.

So sorry to hear about the car. I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Be sure to let us know when you make it to Georgia safely.

Man that is really crappy. It sounds like something that would happen to me. On the (sorta?) bright side, at least it happened now, and not on the interstate on your way down to Georgia.

I'll be thinking about you and sending out good vibes that you make it down safe, and that you are able to find a job quickly.

Cars! Grrr! I'm glad you weren't hurt but I'm so sympathetic about the whole thing.

I didn't know you were moving to Georgia. Did I miss a post? Ack. Now I feel like a very bad LJ friend. Anyway, you'll be a lot closer now that you're down south.

As for the money, well as a veteran worrier, I don't imagine there is anyway to completely stop worrying but usually the things we worry about most don't happen. Sending all vibeage for finding a great job quickly.
